Metadata of the photo - footage is one of the most important part in microstock business if not even most important part. Your photo / footage can be exceptional quality, but if it can not be found in search engines most likely it will not sell. Maybe you can manage to sell it right after it is uploaded and approved for sale, as some of the agencies have "new files first" option, but this is not always the good thing, as after some time file can be buried under tons and tons of others people "new stuff".
Most important metadata for search engines and the metadata that most agencies actually request are:
- Caption
- Description
- Keywords
- Location
- Category
- Editorial or commercial
- With people or without

1.Captions
Speaking about "Captions" or image title we need to consider 2 important aspects:
- descriptive enough for buyers
- well optimized for search engines outside of the stock site (Seo optimization)
Some buyers read captions before interacting with files especially when it comes to buying stock footage. If your caption is not describing what is shown in the photo / footage, the buyer will most likely skip it and open another more descriptive file to read more about it. 2.Description
Even though some of the people are mixing caption and description, those are two completely different parts of metadata. The caption is used to shortly describe what is in the image and description should provide all information about file subject, concept, the way that it was captured, date if relevant. the description is important for all search engines not only for microstock sites.
